St Andrew's Summer Hill: Friendship Group Ministry

The St Andrew’s church community in Summer Hill has had an outreach ministry to the local boarding houses for the past 22 years. Many of the boarding house residents suffer with a psychiatric or developmental disability and have found a safe place at St Andrew’s on Saturdays where they are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a range of activities for their well-being. Members have been empowered to take on roles and responsibilities within the group and have found opportunity to express themselves through art, song writing and gardening. They also help evaluate the program and are active in planning the group’s activities.
