St Thomas' Auburn: Auburn Community Care & Development (ACCD)
St Thomas’ is a multi-ethnic and multi-lingual church family in a culturally diverse local community with high numbers of ethnic Chinese, Turkish, Vietnamese, Lebanese/Arabic speaking and Africans, who are newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants. St. Thomas’ existing community service programs provide direct and specialised services to meet the social, physical, educational, psychological and emotional needs of people in the community. These programs currently include:
Playgroups for children and their carers; special activities for the elderly;
Direct assistance to new migrants and people from NESB in accessing various government services as well as orientation to their new local community and its facilities;
Provision of knowledge & language acquisition through ESL classes, tuition classes, computing classes, information seminars in a caring environment;
Celebration of cultural/religious/special events for the local community.
Through these programs the church encourages God’s people to share God’s love in practical and caring ways reaching out into the local community.
