Rwanda - Literacy and Post Literacy Program
Partner: Gahini Diocese (2008 – 2011)
This project aims to help people through teaching them to read and write, and using literacy as a means to educate people about improved agricultural practices, keeping livestock, and better sanitation methods.
Rwanda has a high level of illiteracy, which contributes to the high level of poverty. This projects aims to help people in the Kayonza District of Rwanda learn to read and write, and thus have access to information that can help to improve their livelihoods.
The project involves two components. The first component handles the activity of teaching people how to read and write and basic mathematics. The second involves grouping people into reading groups, training them to read well, and providing relevant reading materials for them. These reading materials will include information about sustaianble agricultural practicies and important health information.
